Sculpture and Photography

This body of work explores the question of the simulacrum and its limitations in replacing the real. As evidenced by the mythological tales of earthen golems and the philosophical conjectures concerning homunculi, the idea of the simulacrum is pervasive to our culture. In my sculptures and installations, I seek to create copies of human forms, and to juxtapose the flaws of the reproductions with what we collectively experience as genuine.

These human-like forms, with their skin crafted from transparent plastic, and their entrails from electric wires, lights, and glass, are far from being recognized as truly human. Their stiff bodies lack various limbs, and, instead, lean haphazardly against walls or lay, dismembered, on floors. Nevertheless, these forms partially retain the structural integrity of their living counterparts.

Domestic Installation

By way of painting, sculpture, and installation, my work explores the interaction of various media and materials, as well as their ability to transform both space and surface. My interest lies in conceptual contrasts which exist within our world. The dichotomies of the natural, versus the domestic, the serendipitous, versus the intended, and the organic, versus the inorganic, are the driving forces behind my pieces. In these sculptures, paintings, and installations, I seek to transform domestic items through my use of earth, plant matter, pigment, and paint.
